Food, Family and Ribbons~

My brother flew into town for a quick visit to help my mom with her taxes. We got together Friday night for pizza at my house with Jenni, Randy, Daniel and Nicki and families. Dan had a friend from Australia that came for a visit.. you BLOKE ... (thanks Annie). She thought I had the "most beautiful American home so far"... I really liked her!




The grandkids spent the evening WHIPPING down my stairs.. .Max really gets moving!

Is there any question here that Max is the brains of the family??


Scott missed out on pizza night as he was highly involved in the Woodcarvers competition and show. He was involved from set up on Thursday until take down Saturday night. He entered several EXCELLENT pieces of work. And LOOK at his results!

My personal favorite... BLUE RIBBON... guy in the hammock. Everything, including the leaves are carved. Look at the cute cooler with the sandwich and can on it? How clever is that!!

First place for Gandolf and third for the taco dude.

Scott was a little disappointed with the Second on the Scarecrow. He'll try again at the state fair with him.

This box is called "chip carving" and is difficult to do. Not many people even attempt it. This style of carving was brought over from Russia. Scott's Russian friend has shown him how to do this.

And the BIGGEST surprise of the night was this.... my practice woodburning piece. Scott secretly took this piece and entered it. I had NO idea until I walked into the show. There it was on the first table..... Guess I'll have to try for a BLUE ribbon next time!!

Cooking, hunting? and running...

We've had the busy weekends lately. First - the BIG St Paddy's day parade (blog below) then the next day we trekked up to the Sportsman Expo to watch Dave in a big dutch oven cook off. There were 20 chefs participating and our little Dave took 4th!! Most of the chefs there work professionally in the chefing business.... So congrats DAVID!! YaHooo

This is Dave in his little make-shirt kitchen whipping up a feast of dutch oven finery. We were lucky and got a taste of his chicken and some delicious brownie thing.

Of course this was a day long activity - we got up there about 1:00ish and wandered. Scott's heart beat rapidly as he stopped at the display booths advertising for great fishing adventures in Alaska. His little plastic sack ripped from all the literature. Apparently we are going there someday soon....

The Sportsman expo is definitely for great hunters....


This past weekend we ventured to Moab to watch Jenni run in her first 1/2 marathon. It was great fun. Scott made signs (refer to St P's blog) for our faithful runners - Jenni and Brandy. Hank wanted his sign to say "go Kunz go" and he and Dyson held them high for all runners to see. Scott was nominated several times as the "fan of the run" for all his supportive cheering as the runners pasted by us. I think both Annie and Scott felt a little longing for the good ole' runs of old.

It's a BLARNEY Day~

I think its a tradition now.. .. year 3? The St. Paddy's Day parade was today! It was a perfect day - the weather was sunny and all crazy Irishmen or wanna be's were out!


Randy becomes more IRISH every year. He greeted the Salt Lake mayor, U of U basketball coach and all dancers, stompers, walkers and parade goers with a zealous "Top of the Mornin' to ya". He was quite a hit!


Not to be out done - Jamie, Jayden, Livvy and Ella demonstrated that they are GREEN thru and thru~


Everyone had their green on along with their smiles. Jamie found us the perfect spot to watch the parade from. We're getting smarter every year.. this year we had enough chairs AND blankets for everyone!!

Everyone had a good time - lots of laughter and lots of GREEN.


After the parade we enjoyed a not so Irish lunch at Iggy's. There just wasn't any corned beef or green beer on the menu!

What a wonderful morning! Time spent with family is the best part of any day. Thanks everyone and we're planning on next year again!!
